• I have a new site that I set up on a linux server by downloading from www.remarpro.com I can log into the wp-admin, but I cannot do much there.

If I try to download a theme or update wordpress, I get the same overall error in each case:

Error: Could not connect to the server. Please verify the settings are correct.

This happens when I use credentials that currently work fine to PuTTY into the server and use FTPS.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Thank you!

  • Hi @markonu123,

Possibly you need to reach out your hosting provider and check for this error. Updating wordpress & installing new theme/plugins should not be an issue.
BTW your wordpress login and ftp login should be different. Are you trying to install theme from ftp?
Let us know more details about it so we can better understand.

Hello swayam, thanks for your offer to help.

I do not have a hosting provider to work with. I have complete root access to the linux machine this is on.

In a browser, I go to my site, log in as admin, and look at the Site Health Status screen. One of the messages is:

The REST API encountered an unexpected result

    REST API Endpoint: https://www.reach0.net/wp-json/wp/v2/types/post?context=edit
    REST API Response: (403) Forbidden

How can I determine what the problem is and fix it?
