have item ONLY on main page?

If you’ll follow the link to my site (https://www.idowens.com) and view the source, you’ll see that at the bottom, I have a script calling for the counter that I’m currently using. My problem is that whenver someone clicks to follow a link within the site (say to archives, comments, or a single post view) the counter keeps rising. It’s smart enough to distinguish unique hits from return, but the counter continues to rise regardless. I’m wondering (as I still don’t know too much about coding) where there are a set of tags I might surround the javascript code with so that the counter only appears on the main page, and not subsequent ones? Thanks in advance…
