Have I been hacked and how can I stop it?

    Everything was going ok when I noticed a strange change. I was typing up a post when I noticed half of it had been deleted. Initially I put this down to a fault.

    I then moved the post out of the ‘pending review’ section and into ‘drafts’. However, within a minute or so, it had been moved back to ‘pending review’ and another section had been deleted.

    I changed my password and another authors password.

    I had left the post as uncategorized so I decided to put it into my ‘article’ category, yet when I looked it had been put into ‘360’ and ‘ps3’ as well as uncategorized.

    Also, comments were disabled for this post only, despite me never changing the settings in any way.

    Is this the sign of a hacker or a long stream of faults? And if it is a hacker, how can I stop him/her?

  • if you are concerned, maybe you need to behave as if you have been. better safe than sorry?

    As it stands you are already running a version of wordpress that is not current.

    More articles have been deleted. Other than upgeading and using a SECRET KEY what can I do?

    what answer do you want? how about you tell me what you want to hear and i will regurgitate it for you?

    You want to have a web site, it comes with some responsibility — assume your site has been hacked — Go through the process of “unhacking” it, and upgrade.

    Stop being lazy.

    here, you want another option. Delete the files, and put a gun to your head. For fucks sake.

    One of the many reasons to upgrade is to CLOSE SECURITY HOLES. Just upgrade! It wont fix your problem, but it certainly won’t hurt. Do a little research, how do you think we learn?

    I will upgrade, but I do not know the ‘process of “unhacking” it’ other than upgrading. If the upgrading does nothing, then what else can I do.

    Just make sure that you have a recent database backup before the bad thing happened. Then you can restore your blog even from ashes.

    Make Backups.

    Upgrade.

    Change all passwords:
    database username password
    wp-admin passwords
    ftp pass
    cPanel pass
    etc

    Use the secret key.
