Has this software ever worked right for anyone?

I do installs for install4free. I have done 100’s without problem.
I’m running 6 differing sites without problems.
Slamming the software won’t fly.

I read your other posts. Most of what you said makes no sense. Like simply hitting “save” won’t break a website unless you changed something recklessly like blog or site url.

How did it “cease” working? What did it do or fail to do? And why do you think that every problem with WP requires a reinstall?

And that’s gotta be one of the silliest questions ever posed on this forum (and believe me, there’ve been quite a few). Has it ever worked for anyone? Well OF COURSE it has. It usually works for people who have a basic understanding of MySQL, how to set up a database, and a user, and assign the user to the database, who know the difference between an URI and a server path, who understand about CHMOD, FTP, etc. and who can read directions.

I never unzip my files from the shell. I unzip them on my hard drive and then I upload them to the server. If I’m upgrading, I wipe out the files and folders I don’t need (I’ve posted EXHAUSTIVELY on this procedure in the past few days; check my profile for those instructions), and upgrades go without a hitch. I just this weekend upgraded from 2.0.11RC to 2.5.1, without a hitch. (Oh, I take it back, there WAS one hitch. And it was the result of me NOT following my own advice and letting the files be overwritten, not deleted and fresh files uploaded.)

Well, THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED!!! I’m not going to go and mess around with php I don’t know. I just didn’t like the header text, so I changed it to something else in the Settings (I love how all the instructions say the menu is Options, but I’ve never seen it), and pressed saved.

Bam, insta not work software!

Seems like a huge issue to me.

And no, it’s never worked right for me. Never published a post, or done anything else. But, generally, I do my own coding. I just got bored and lazy this time and tried to find a way out of it. Big mistake on my part, I got what I payed for in heaping helpings: NOTHING!

… I’m beginning to believe it hasn’t.

What do you base that on, the support forums. Well of course the forums will be full of people having problems because that’s what it’s for. The magical google says that “40,700,000 results for “powered by wordpress””. So a few people must have managed to get it working.

I’ve used a few other open source blogging platforms and by far for me the documentation and help and overall quality of WordPress surpasses anything else I’ve tried.

So explain the problems your having and we can help.

Okay, so the forum isn’t for help then? Where exactly is this magical land of finding help? Because, even though I’ve posted my problem, you all keep asking what it is. Or ignoring the thread, because no one really wants to help a new user. That would detract from the omnipotence that is this forum, of course!

Either post in detail what your problem is or this topic will be closed!

So which? Do you code or let the software do most of the work? Seems like most of the problems I see here along the lines of desperate cries of “WP won’t work!” come when they’ve done something, despite claiming they haven’t touched a thing, when the first thing they do is diddle with a setting they shouldn’t mess with. Just for the sake of it I presume. I mean, I thought the point was to blog. What’s this obsession with coding? If you don’t know what you’re doing, and you don’t know what something is or does, LITFA. (I think you know what those letters stand for!)
