• Late this afternoon, I noticed my site running very slowly. It has been 3 hours and it is still running slowly. 15-20 seconds to load.
I have not added any new content nor touched my site in over a week. The site was running perfectly normal last night.

I am hosted on a shared server. I called my hosting company and they said that the “Server looked ok”. They also told me that the bandwith usage on my site today “looked normal”. His only suggestion was to check the php and cgi running. He mentioned something about “commenting out” the php and cgi, but I have no idea what this is. I am not running any special programs or plugins on my site. I have 4 plugins and they are updated whenever a new release is made. The plugins are not blacklisted on a site that shows vulnerable wordpress plugins.

I downloaded a plugin from WordPress.com that searches for vulnerabilities in sites, but it found nothing.

I manually looked at my .htaccess file, and did a google search for “wordpress hacked” and found several posts that suggested I check in certain directories for modified files. I found nothing out of the ordinary.

Could my site be hacked, or an attempt by someone to modify code on my site to make it run slower?

    or

Could my hosting company (godaddy.com) just be very slow and refusing to admit there is a problem.

Oh btw…..I dont’ have any heavy media images or files on my site. It is a basic text site with a few javascript and html files. Just your basic run of the mill WordPress blog that has been active now for over 4 years. I am running the most current version of wordpress.

    thanks

Yes, my site had slowdown problems when I used godaddy.

Are you still in “slowdown” mode Iridiax?

Are you on a shared hosting account?

    thanks

I switched to a different shared host and I haven’t had problems since.

Ok, I thought you meant your site was slow today….

My issue has still not been resolved.

Does anyone know of any instance where a potential attack on a site could cause the site to load in 15-20 seconds? Can you give me some files/folders to search?

Will reinstallation of the 2.6 wordpress update work?

Does anyone know what would cause a wordpress blog to suddenly run slow?

I have not added any new content in over a week, and up until yesterday it was running just fine.

the idiots at godaddy seem to think it is php or cgi on my site that is causing it to load in 15-20 seconds.

is this a sign of my site being hacked or attempted?
