I am in the process of upgrading from 4.2.4 to 4.3 on two systems, and both are hanging, showing blank pages in my wp-admin screens.

When I try to log in on a separate window, it says that I am running 4.2.4.

I’ve been waiting about 1.5 hours and nothing seems to be happening.

CPU usage is negligible.

How long should I wait before killing the clients, and do I need to do a complete re-install if, after killing the client, the dashboard still shows version 4.2.4?

Try closing the page and then logging back in and trying to update it again.

That indicates that there’s a 500 error being generated from PHP problem. Are you able to deactivate all of your plugins then try and upgrade again?

I closed the window and requested an update without doing an updraft+ backup first, and it seemed to work. I did, however, get the following message:
error:WP_Error Object ( [errors] => Array ( [http_request_failed] => Array ( [0] => Operation timed out after 5001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received ) ) [error_data] => Array ( ) )

I did a re-update, and it did not display any errors I could see. (The screen went to the Welcome to WordPress 4.3 very quickly.)

Should I be OK now without re-installing everything?

I see that Apache died on one of the systems that was hanging.
