    Hey there,

    thanks for your plugin.

I’ve got around 120 foot notes in my article. Now i get the following error:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /xxx/http/docs/wp-content/plugins/footnotes/classes/task.php on line 253

Maybe the plugin can’t handle that much foot notes?

    Another question:

In my articles (imported from word .doc files) the foot notes are within the article like “..for that reason[1]..” and the reference is at the end of the article like “[1] see https://www…”. My article is paginated.

Is it possible to show the reference of each foot note at the end of the page instead at the end of the article? Or just link to the end of the article. Right now your link is just an anchor, not a real link.

I hope you can help me!

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards

The fatal error occures when i change the default marker (()) for footnotes to [].

I’m guessing the problem might be that those are the markers for WordPress short codes. I’d stay away from [ and ]. That said, I’d think it would be possible to display them around the note number generated by the plugin on the final output page, but I’m guessing using them in the editor is going to be a problem. I’d stick with the (( and )) as that is standard ‘markup’ language for notes anyway… a good thing to get used to. (And, from experience in the past, if you’re importing Word docs, notes are going to be only one of your worries!)

I guess using the [] as short code might be the problem. In general a single character as short code is very dangerous because it could also appear in the hidden ouput of a post/page (html tag, javascript, css).

Please try a string of multiple characters for the short code and check if the error still occurs.

    Hi Daimoch,

thanks for bringing your issue to our attention using the support forum.

I like the fact that you’re using footnotes extensively. What’s also nice is that your articles are paginated.

While I think the approach of the previous posters is still valid, would you please also paste the output of the new diagnostics tab here. This tab was introduced to the settings page of footnotes with version 1.4.0 to help diagnose issues, people run into.

    Have a good one.
