H1 Heading Site Setting Does Not Affect Page Heading

I am a complete Elementor newbie but have worked very hard at the Academy videos etc.

I have set a font size for H1 in the global site settings. I am now trying to create a default page template – I guess, in effect, building my own theme if I understand things correctly?

When I add a H1 element to my page template, it does not reflect the font size that I set in global site settings.

I am clearly misunderstanding something fundamental. Can anyone explain this, please, or point me to some relevant learning materials?
