I was setting up WP-optimize yesterday and everything looked good. Today, when I logged in, Gzip compression was turned on with no option to turn it off. Strangely, I have never turned it on.

I have another site on the same Litespeed server but Gzip has not been automatically enabled on that one and I know it’s not a server default.

Same thing with Static File headers. That one I did enable yesterday on both sites but after enabling it I could still change it. Today it’s enabled permanently with a big green checkmark and the controls are gone, just like Gzip compression.

    Please advice.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

This means that GZIP is already enabled on your server, either in the server config, or in your website’s .htaccess (if running Apache).

Regarding the Static File headers, did you possibly edit your site’s .htaccess, or enable something like Cloudflare?

Could you maybe share your website’s URL?

    Thanks for your reply!

I checked with the hosting company and Gzip is indeed enabled by default because they’re using LiteSpeed servers.

Regarding the Static File headers, I have not edited the .htaccess file and I’m not using Cloudflare. Could this issue also be connected to the Litespeed server?

    Many thanks!

I’m not sure. The reason for this to happen is if Static File headers are enabled, and the .htaccess doesn’t contain the rules added by WP-Optimize.

As you enabled them in WP-Optimize, I’m wondering if something else modified the .htaccess.
You could open it and check if it contains a section with comments such as # BEGIN WP-Optimize Browser Cache.

    Marc.
