• I’ve had quite a few issues with Gutenburg being almost too slow to work with in the past, and ended up using an previous version in order to edit.

Recently the builds have somehow fixed that issue for me, until today.

I just updated to the 8.8.0 version and my lord is it SLOOOOW.

Deleting a block can take upwards of 6+ seconds, and oh man if I try to delete characters by quickly pressing backspace it’ll be 20+ seconds before I see anything happen.

I also can no longer move blocks with the on screen arrows effectively. I used to be able to spam the arrow button to move blocks up and down and now 2 clicks in and it’s got me clicking on another block.

Anybody got ideas? I’m dead in the water here and I’ve only got so much hair to rip out.

I’ll be trying to revert back to the previous version for now, guess I’m doing this again.

  • Hi,

I have gone in to my blog after updates which happened this week and gone into an historic post (written in classic editor) which needed an amend and the option to “convert to blocks” no longer seems to be there and also I can’t preview and edit in classic editor… it says the block isn’t working…. please help….

    Hi @aflowerinameadow

Youd probably be better off creating your own post for your issue.

I’m having the same issue. It’s maddening. Other than not using Gutenberg, has anyone found a solution?

    @the-shiny-butter-blog Absoltely meddening indeed.

This has happened to me once before and a downgrade fixed the issue. It looks pike that solution is working agaon for me.

I was using 8.7.1 prior to the upgrade to 8.8.0. Using updraftplus I restored the 8.7.1 plugin version and all is well now. Have you tried this?

I could do that, but I’m hoping not to have to resort to a back-up, as I’ve already established too much content since the prior update.

Does anyone have insight as to how quickly the issue will be corrected?

@the-shiny-butter-blog I agree its a workaround not a solution, still waiting on a solution myself.

If you have updraftplus you can rollback specitic parts of your website like plugins without losing any other data btw.

Is there a way to download the older version of Gutenberg? I don’t use updraftplus and I don’t want to rollback my whole website. But the editor is completely unusable after 8.8.0 update…

I’m not sue if its possible to fimd older versioms amywhere, maybe on the github page?

I’ll see if I can grab an older version off my site.
