Hopefully this is the right section to ask. Because it isn’t about one specific plugin, but more a general question, I thought this would be the best place to post it.

I have been confused for weeks figuring out what exactly the block editor and Gutenberg is. As a newbie it is all so confusing.

I found this article in the link field that explains it and still have a few questions. Hopefully this is the right place to ask.

If I understand correctly, it means you should always use the block editor for your website (if you’re not testing anything) and you should not actually download the plugin Gutenberg. Is that correct?

One thing that I am still confused about, is this first part:
The block editor may have things that don’t work on your site due to some change so it’s always best to wait to upgrade WordPress until you are sure everything (theme, plugins, or almost anything else) has been updated and tested to work.”

What does this mean? Why would there be things that don’t work and by what would it be caused (and should that be a reason to not use the block editor)?

I want to create my website in the most ‘clean’ way possible to prevent any problems with my website in the future. Therefore I figured it’s best to use the block editor instead of a page builder. Is this a good view on it or am I missing things? Is using the block editor actually better for preventing possible future problems?

I have researched this on Google but I found vague and scattered information everywhere.
    I hope someone can explain.

  • Gutenberg is in effect the development version of the Block Editor.

Unless you are specifically wanting to help test new features just use the existing Block Editor that is installed as part of WordPress.

You will be safe enough with that.

The main reason why you get confusing info is that the Block Editor is relatively new ( 2 years) and lots of blogs etc have been written as people begin to understand the Block Editor.

Ah okay, I understand now. It is very confusing that everyone calls it the same name. If people refer to Gutenberg, then they apparently sometimes don’t mean Gutenberg but the block editor. Anyways, thank you for the clarification! Very much appreciated!!
