I have been pulling my hair out trying figure out why the little black & white “+” block editor insert block buttons recently disappeared. When hitting the Enter key on my keyboard OR using the ‘Add before’ or ‘Add after’ options in the block Options panel to add a new block, the editor adds a new line with “Type / to choose a block” – with the paragraph block set as the default block BUT there is no “+” button allowing me to use the blocks pop up or “Browse all” blocks.

To isolate the problem, I started disabling plugins and as soon as I disabled Widget Options, the “+” buttons started working again. After more testing, I found it’s the “Gutenberg Page & Post Block Options” that adds in-page Widget Options functionality that borks the ‘add block’ buttons. This is unfortunate since some functions on the site rely on this in-page feature.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone from the mother ship could look into this and implement a fix.

Muchas gracias, (nice plugin otherwise BTW)

    WP Version: 6.5.5
    GeneratePress: 3.4.0
    PHP Version: 8.2.20
No page builders. Using the Gutenberg block editor
    Widget Options: Version 4.0.6.1

I just ran a test on a fresh install of WP (same environment as specified above). When I create a new page, the black + button is aligned to the right of “Type / to choose a block” as expected. Yay. But as soon as I add content to the page (e.g., a paragraph) and either hit “Enter” with my keyboard or use the options menu to “Add before” or “Add after” to add a new block, the + button is no longer present. Boo. If I disable “Gutenberg Page & Post Block Options”, like magic the + button starts working again.
