Gutenberg made it impossible for me to do anything
-
I tried. I really tried. Two posts in two days took me about 4 times as long as it usually takes me because of agonizing constant freezing due to autosave. I seriously had to keep doing a “save draft”, which would then also freeze, but somehow DID save, so I would leave the page and navigate BACK to the draft to pick up where I’d left off. Every. Time. I. Saved. Also, I write in Word, so when I pasted into the text field, it neatly broke the blog into blocks, but throughout the entire blog it sporadically connected words, so I had to carefully go through it and make sure there were spaces between every word…because the editor underlined some of them as incorrectly spelled but missed some completely.
Trying to add to existing pages on my site was impossible. These are index pages of all the movie titles I blog about with links to the specific blog page. When I went into the pages in the editor to add more titles, they were already in “classic mode”, but every time I tried to add links it would freeze and say “update failed” then get stuck in autosave mode. If I tried to add an image, it would freeze and images wouldn’t load. I tried switching the editor to blocks, but that not only threw off the entire layout of my page into overlapping blocks, it also completely froze the editor so I couldn’t even try to fix the page.
I would report any further issues I’m having but there won’t be any because I installed the classic editor plugin and did everything I needed to do in a matter of minutes. If you’re losing your mind with Gutenberg, I highly advise you to give up and install the classic editor plugin…and hope that it continues to be supported after 2022.
