why did you make it compulsory? Our visual composer works in all of our themes so we don’t prefer this editor.

Please don’t post “workaround” code snippets like that. Snippets such as that are not guaranteed to continue to function properly in the future, and They can cause breaking changes when combined with plugins doing things properly.

Instead, just install the Classic Editor plugin. It basically does the same thing as your snippet did, except that it also has an option to allow people to phase into the new editor gradually if they wish to do so, as well as being officially supported. Your snippet solution is not better than the plugin, and arguably much, much worse.

hello thank you for the reply.

but I don’t use the classic editor.

I’m just using visual composer. In the general settings panel, we should provide a setting that we can close gutenberg.

The Classic Editor plugin basically lets you turn off the new editor, and put the old TinyMCE one there again. If you have Visual Composer, then it will go back to doing whatever it does, with the Classic Editor plugin flipping that switch for you.

Don’t want to poop the system with extra plugin. ?? Who wants to install more add-ons and run unnecessary files?

Plugins are actually better than using code snippets, because plugins have two things that snippets don’t: a) a separation of the plugin code from the rest of the system and b) an off switch.

If something goes wrong, then disabling a plugin is easy. Finding a code snippet tucked away in some random file in a theme, not so easy.

Using proper plugins is a way to have a clean, organized site. Obviously, you need to pick and choose good plugins, but that’s easier than copy and pasting random code around the place, in the long run.

My BLOG is not hosted in-house and Classic Editor is not available from the web host WordPress settings.
This is a critical issue for us. We post several times a week and it is our primary social and direct communication vehicle.
It is urgent a figure out a work around. Our host has suggested just getting rid of WordPress (after we paid them $1500) to insert it in our website.

@mveba The Classic Editor is a plugin.

Go to the Plugins page, and search for “Classic Editor”. You can install and activate it from there.

@otto42 I think you think wrong. I’ll remove it with this code. To edit the theme function.php does not need to enter into the theme. The code is stable running healthy. I’m using it with the following plugin. code snippets

@mveba Do you want some help?

Would love it but I believe our web host will need to add Classic Editor. Plug in window says 129 plug ins available. If I search for Classic, nothing comes up. Our writing tab in settings only has a few formatting questions.

    @mveba Try this.

In the top left hand corner of your Admin page is the WordPress logo. That’s actually a menu. In that menu is a link to the “About” page.

Go to that About page. Scroll all the way down to the bottom. The very last thing on the page is some text describing the Classic Editor, and there is a handy button to install the plugin. Click it, and see if that takes you where you need to go.

Thanks. I know I would prefer the classic editor but I do not believe hosted sites have buttons for installing plugins. The only plugins available to me are the 129 listed in my plugin tab. Still does not explain why I cannot publish a page created with the new BLOCK system. I would suffer along with the BLOCK system if I could resolve the updating and publishing issue.

There are 60k+ plugins. Not 129. I feel like you’re using something super customized or just not seeing something.
