Through much of today 21 Dec 23 I have been unable to get Gutenberg to edit posts. Blocks cannot be accessed and some tools are not available. I cannot save updates and embeds previously saved are not working, although appear to be just fine in a preview. It’s just the editing screen that has issues. Is anyone else experiencing the same or similar issues?. Everything is up to date. So, I don’t think it’s my website but maybe a server issue?

  • I literally have the exact same problem

I have the same problem from the last Gutenberg update (17.3.0) in 21 December. When I disable Gutenberg and use classic editor i am able to edit my posts. Which theme are you using? I’m using Astra pro.

the same; I can’t edit post with Gutenberg

Glad to hear I’m not alone with this problem of Gutenberg 17.3.0 simply not functioning for me. I’m running Faith theme (church website) and WordPress 6.4.2 – everything up to date. Everything worked perfectly until the 17.3 update. If I could go back to the previous version of Gutenberg I’d be a happy man! Hopefully a fix comes soon.

I am also having a similar problem. Since the 17.3.0 update, I can create a new page or custom post type page, but when I try and edit an existing one, the only see the admin sidebar. The entire #editor div is empty and there are some console errors with React that include “react-dom.min.js?ver=18:1 TypeError: e.replace is not a function”.

If I disable the Gutenberg plugin the editor works just fine.

Hi folks – this definitely sounds like a frustrating problem. So far I’ve been unable to recreate it using WP 6.4.2 and Gutenberg 17.3 on a clean install with either Twenty Twenty Four (block) or Twenty Twenty (classic) themes.

It would be really helpful if y’all could try a couple of things and share the results:

    • Try switching to a default theme (like those I mentioned) and see if the result is the same
    • Try deactivating all plugins brielfy, and seeing if the result is the same.

Thanks for following up! I changed to multiple default themes (the ones you recommended and a couple of others) with no results. Then I started deactivating plugins one-by-one and it looks like plugins like “Advanced Post Types Order” and “Advanced Taxonomy Terms Order”, both by NSP-Code (nsp-code.com) are the culprits. I’ve reached out to their dev and hopefully we’ll be able to resolve the conflict.

Thanks. Switching to a default theme the problem persist. When I deactivated the plugins one by one I found a conflict between Gutenberg plugin 17.3.0 and the last update Yoast SEO 21.7 (and Yoast SEO premium 21.7). Only when I deactivate one of the two I can edit my posts. I’ll try to write to Yoast SEO but i’m thinking… if we have the same problem with Gutenberg plugin using different themes and different plugins, maybe the problem is only Gutenberg…not the other themes or plugins?

Well, I updated to 17.4.0, and did some more testing. I may have still been recovering from the holidays, but the NSP-Code plugins no longer seem to be the issue.

I hadn’t touched the Yoast Premium plugin previously, but after reading @mery1622’s comment I deactivated it, and now the NSP-Code plugins are fine. The conflict seems to be with Yoast Premium. The Yoast free plugin doesn’t seem to conflict.

Sorry for the red herring earlier. I’m really not sure what was happening.

OK. Updated to 17.4 and all seems to be good. Big thankyou to those who sorted this out. I don’t know the first thing about coding so totally stuck without those who do !!

Yoast SEO’s support confirm that the problem is a conflict of Yoast SEO premium 21.7 with Gutenberg 17.3. They are working to solve the problem. Effectively, the editor’s problem persist also with Gutenberg 17.4. So let’s wait for the next update of Yoast SEO.

    Thanks to all
