• When I go to edit my pages or posts, the Gutenberg editor works…but there are blank boxes instead of the icons. No words, just blank boxes. If I hover over each blank box, it will tell me what it is (i.e. bold, italics, button, html code, etc.) but I can’t tell just by looking at it like you normally can.

I’ve tried deactivating all plugins as well as switching themes. Nothing is working. Anyone have any advice?

Here is an example and here is another example

Oh dear @alyandlittles that doesn’t look right. It would seem to me like the icons aren’t loading due to maybe network issues. Are you still seeing this issue using the latest version of WordPress?

FYI, I was having this problem as well. I use SiteGround hosting, and the problem was resolved when I disabled the “enforce https” setting. This, in my mind, indicates a problem with Gutenberg using http to request the icons – which kinda makes sense, since icons aren’t really a security issue, but on the other hand, I feel like Gutenberg needs to “get with the program” since site-wide SSL is becoming the standard, not the exception. Especially with google now preferring “no mixed-content”, these kinds of site-wide settings will become the norm, and if wordpress is using insecure methods to request resources, then these implementations will break Gutenberg (which, imo, is already stupid and broken enough, without needing assistance from invisible icons).
