Gutenberg broken after WP 5.9 update

  • Hey,

    I am no longer able to add/edit posts after updating to WP 5.9 – only white screen is shown. I tried “Disable Gutenberg” plug-in, and it allowed me to edit with the classic editor. Then I tried to see what’s wrong – the page source for the white screen contained full html document, and the console output is on the screenshot at imgdb.com

    @livog thank you!!! in my case, those lines were inside enqueue.php in my theme! I removed those lines and now it works!!!

    @jessenoplace depending on your theme, it could be inside functions.php or enqueue.php, in fact I recommend you to use a code editor with “Find in Folder” option to make sure you’ll find it anywhere inside your theme folder.

    Actually, did an entire site search and it doesn’t exist anywhere.

    Hi,

    My host updated from WP 5.8 -> 5.9.1 now my New Page and Edit Page are returning the white screen of death. Happens in Chrome (latest) incognito, Firefox private, and Safari. Deactivating all plugins, or all but ACF doesn’t help. Using the Classic Editor plugin works but I’m heavily invested in Gutenberg. The Health Check Troubleshooting mode corrects the issue. Using theme Twenty Twenty corrects the issue.

    I didn’t understand why I couldn’t find any errors but I was only looking for WordPress and/or PHP errors.

    ‘block_editor_settings_all’ only appears in wp-includes/block-editor.php and wp-content/plugins/classic-editor.php.

    I cannot find ‘block_editor_settings’ in my theme file. I’m using a Genesis theme. Is there somewhere in Genesis settings that I can look?

    Whenever I try to save a post this message pops up:
    Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.

    I got help from a guy at Fivver (I’m not super savvy about WordPress, but I DID like the block feature.) The Fivver guy just disabled Gutenberg and restored the classic editor. Yeah, I can save but I would like to use the new features.

    Can anyone suggest a plan so I can use the new Block Editor AND be able to save a post? Sorry if the answer is here in these responses and I just don’t understand what to do. I’m a bit fearful of editing my .php file.
