• Anyone else having problems after paying WordPress to do the Guided Transfer this week? I switched from .com to .org 10 days ago, and since then the speed of my site has come to a virtual crawl. Am using HostGator as the host as per WordPress recommendation. Also, have only installed three plugins: WP Super Cache, VaultPress Back up and Google XML Sitemaps. Per Host Gator, all are installed.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with HostGator today: 1) They’ve never seen such a weird configuration come in from WordPress. 2) Spent over an hour trying to fix/re-configure 3) Site is now worse than ever. Takes over 25 seconds to get the website to open up. Google says there is a server error because it can’t crawl the site…so slow.

Does anybody know of a fix?? Anyone else having this problem? It’s been 10 days of a train wreck. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

The site I’m having problems with is SocialEyesNYC.com

  • From looking at your site it did not take a terrible amount (only about 5-6 seconds). I also ran GTMetrix scan for the site and it came back with a C- grade (which basically shows it is ok but could use some optimizing still). You can view the results here: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/socialeyesnyc.com/OytRCxTL .

If the site is still running really slow it could be the connection between your geographical location and the server location. Many times contacting your Internet provider can be helpful there. But continuing to work with your hosting provider (in this case, Hostgator) may be a good idea. In addition to that, you may be on one of the cheaper services over at Hostgator which may be compounding the issue.

Hope that helps. Good luck ??

Thanks so much, curtjen. I will be back on the phone with Hostgator later tonight and will pass this info by them (along with my list!).

If I need more of your assistance, I’ll be sure to give a shout.

Additionally, HostGator’s shared Linux accounts have had speed/connectivity issues ever since they moved them from the Houston, TX data center to the Provo, UT data center.
