GUID showing temporary URL/server
-
I recently moved a website from one server to another using a migration plugin. The new wordpress installation used a temporary URL (server name/~username), so after I moved the site, I used a search and replace plugin to change the temporary URL to the domain name. The search and replace plugin has an option to update the GUID fields, but I never use it because the wordpress codex is very specific about never updating these fields.
But, I just realized that the GUID field is using the temporary URL from the host. The migration plugin must have changed it during the migration process.
I’ve used this migration plugin before, and I see that those sites also have the temporary URL in the GUID field. :-/
A few questions…
1) Is a security risk to have the temporary URL (server name/~username) in this field?
2) Should I change it on sites that I migrated months ago?
3) I use plugins and scripts on some of the sites to automatically post to FB. I know I’ll need to disable those plugins before I change anything or else they will re-post every post, but are there other things I should be aware of before changing this field?
