• I often have guest bloggers and I would like their name to be displayed as the author. I have a plugin that can create and edit “roles”. I created a new role named “Guest Blogger” and did not give any privileges.

My question is, what is the best way to be able to display a guest bloggers name as the person that wrote the post, without giving them any privileges, etc.

  • You can create new roles with out the plugin. You can head to Dashboard>Users>Add new to create a new user.

If you are an administrator you can attribute a post to any user even without logging in as that user.

OK…I created the new user as an Admin and it worked. However, I’d rather not make them an Admin. I’ll have to work around that problem later. At least I can post on their behalf now.

    Cheers.

Now, why don’t you try and create an author and contributor just to see if it works?

OK…just tried creating a new Author and Contributor, but it doesn’t work.

Do you think there is a general setting that says nobody less than Admin can create a post? Just wondering…

Oh…and I tried going to create a new role as you described above, but I can only create a new User, not a new Role.

Do you think there is a general setting that says nobody less than Admin can create a post?

Not in WordPress by default. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Interesting. Do you have any other plugins/themes?Could you disable them for a brief period and check if it works?
Authors are allowed to create a post and publish it while contributors can create them but not publish it.

I’m going to mess around with it later – disable plugins, change theme, etc, etc. I’ll see if that works.

Here’s what is strange. I have 2 existing roles (currently Author) that show up in the drop-down menu. However, they were originally Admin roles. I changed them after a while. They still show up even after I changed their roles.

    Sigh…I’ll pick away at it.
