GTIN needs assigning or not?
-
Hi everyone and happy new year!
Noticed that Woocommerce has added ”GTIN, UPC, EAN, or ISBN” under Inventory tab. Do we need to assign as an attribute or is this picked up automatically by the plugin?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Aggravated Badger,
Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support.
I would suggest filling in the “GTIN,?UPC,?EAN, or?ISBN” field so Google for WooCommerce can pick it up. Could you share a screenshot of your site and show me how GTIN is set up at the moment?
Looking forward to your response. ??
Hello @doublezed2 and thanks for reaching back! We’ve been using the EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce: UPC, ISBN & GTIN Inventory plugin to assign the GTIN custom attribute, but since the “GTIN,?UPC,?EAN, or?ISBN” field?is auto picked up by Google then it’s good practice to remove the custom attribute?
Attached is the screenshot of how it was assigned with the ”EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce: UPC, ISBN & GTIN Inventory” plugin. https://snipboard.io/RQ4Oyq.jpg
Hi @tehcook,
I’m not sure I completely understand your question. Are you asking whether you should fill in the GTIN, UPC, EAN, or ISBN fields now available in the Inventory tab when creating products, or are you asking if Google will automatically pick up the value of that field once it’s filled?
If you’re asking the latter, yes, you will still need to map the attributes when using the Google for WooCommerce plugin, as explained here: https://woocommerce.com/document/google-for-woocommerce/attribute-mapping/. Additionally, you’ll need to fill in the field in the Inventory tab.
I hope this clears things up. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!
Thanks @mosesmedh , it was the latter. So all my products have a filled GTIN field. Where does one find the attribute to map it through the plugin?
Hello Aggravated Badger,
Thank you for your reply.
The “GTIN, UPC, EAN, or ISBN” field is automatically detected by Google for WooCommerce.
There is no need to manually map it.Feel free to reach out again if you have more questions or concerns.
We are here to help ??Best regards.
Hello @doublezed2 , so I went ahead and did an async of all products but checking the GMC I see some products having GTIN issues ”Missing required GTIN Limits visibility in 37 countries” despite having filled out the field on my woocommerce backend. Why is this happening? I didn’t have this issue when I used to have the GTIN mapped as an product attribute.
Hello Aggravated Badger,
Thank you for your reply.
To clarify, since you had the EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce plugin installed you will be prompted to migrate to WooCommerce core feature.
Did you get a prompt asking to migrate to the WooCommerce core feature?
Looking forward to your response. ??
Hello @doublezed2 I’ve aready done the GTIN Migration a long time ago, and for good measure I did it again yesterday ( it says GTIN Migration: Completed) but I still see the error persisting on GMC. FYI I have EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce installed but I’ve deleted the attribute mapping to GTIN since it used to be a requirement for Google for WC to properly map GTIN and feed it to GMC.
So I wanted this to work automatically but apparently it’s not working as intended. Maybe I should revert back to mapping the custom attribute?

Edit: Deactivated EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce, ran GTIN Migration and async all products but still nothing. Very few products are okay but the majority are slammed with Missing GTIN on GMC.
Hi there,
Thank you for the update and for sharing the steps you’ve already taken!
After deactivating the EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce plugin, did you see a popup asking about migration to WooCommerce core features? If not, I recommend reinstalling the EAN Barcode Generator for WooCommerce plugin and checking if the popup appears upon deactivation.
If you see the popup this time, ensure you select the option to migrate to WooCommerce core features. This step is crucial to ensure the GTIN data is correctly imported into WooCommerce’s native fields.
Once the migration is completed, re-sync your products with Google Merchant Center via the plugin and check if the issue is resolved.
Let us know how this works for you, or if you encounter any further issues. We’re happy to assist further!

@shahzeenfarooq I’ve stated that I’ve ran the GTIN Migration tool twice but no bueno.
I’ve tried your steps, and still nothing. 95% of variable products are synced without their GTIN.

Hello Aggravated Badger,
Thank you for your reply.
I understand you’ve run the GTIN Migration tool twice, but most variable products are still syncing without their GTIN.
Could you share screenshots of the migration process? This will help me ensure the steps were followed correctly.
Looking forward to your response. ??
Hi @doublezed2 ,
How do I share screenshots of the migration process itself? All I did was click GTIN Migration and it said Completed after a while?
Hi @tehcook,
You can upload your screenshots to the media section of your website, then copy the link for each screenshot from there. Use the /image block in this thread to paste the link, and the image will display within the thread.
Regarding the screenshots, this involves capturing every step you took. Alternatively, you can create a screen recording using Loom to demonstrate your process and share the link here. Loom is free to use and can provide a clearer explanation.
