    Hello,

    thank you for this plugin.
I am trying to add EAN/GTIN to variable products.
With regular products I do this by adding a custom property that I have included in the field. However, with variable products this option does not work.

Your website says the free version also works with variable products. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi sanderrrrr,

Unfortunately that is the way WooCommerce works, adding attributes or custom fields/properties for variations itself is possible but from a technical point of view WooCommerce gives those another technical name then it does for the simple products. As a result you cannot create a GTIN field mapping on just one custom property that works both for simple products and the variations of a variable product.

That is exactly why we developed this (paid) feature that solves the above issue at hand: https://adtribes.io/add-gtin-mpn-upc-ean-product-condition-optimised-title-and-brand-attributes/

    Hope this makes sense?

    All the best,

    Thank you for the elaboration.
Why does your website state that the free version does support variable products? That seems rather misleading to me.

Right now I have included the EAN in a custom property field per product.
If I would switch to the paid version would I need to change all these products to the new structure?

    Hi Sander,

This is just the way WooCommerce works when you want to add extra attributes. Our plugin perfectly supports variable products within the limitations of WooCommerce itself. So adding variations to a feed works fine as long as you do not need to add variations attributes like you tried.

Indeed, when switching to the paid version of our plugin it does mean you have to fill in values per variation for those to make it to the feed.

What is the use of adding variations to a feed if you cannot include the required fields for google?

I currently already have these values for simple products. By using a custom property field.
Would I need to update all those or will this still work?

“What is the use of adding variations to a feed if you cannot include the required fields for google?” –> exactly, because of this shortcoming of WooCommerce we had to develop the extra fields feature ??

With regards to the second question. When you map, for example, Google’s g:gtin field to one of the extra fields added by our plugin “woosea gtin” and want to use the values you previously filled in in your custom field for simple products than you can create a rule that looks like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6q6uaht8s3mosna/woosea_gtin.png?dl=0

Where the “Eva custom field” needs to be your custom field.

    Hope this makes sense?
