hello @google Listings and Ads team,

I use gt4wp to enrich my data layer for clinet and server side tracking. I used Google Listings and Ads for my product feed on merchant center. I have however noticed that it causes a duplication of the view_item event, which causes duplicate tag fires on GTM

is there a way to prevent Google Listings and Ads from pushing to the data layer ?

  • Hey there, @shisha101! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with duplicated events in your data layer due to interactions between Google Listings and Ads and GT4WP, leading to multiple tag fires on GTM.

It is possible that GT4WP has the option to add conditions to the trigger. So maybe you can add a condition to check whether the event is already present in the data layer before firing.

Can you please reach out to GT4WP support so they can confirm if this is possible, and if it is, help you set it up?

If it is not, please let us know so we can help you investigate this further.

Here are some Google Guides you might find helpful:

hello @carolm29 thanks for the support.

Well GTM4WP is pushing a lot of events, it’s the main backbone for many WP websites. On the other hand the Google Listings and Ads seem to be firing only on the view_item.

I looked at the settings and it seems I’m not able to control that one specifically. Also the name of the variables from Google Listings and Ads seems to be different than what is expected by ga4.

I would really appreciate support regarding this :)! Both send the default view_item event but with different contents.

    Hey @shisha101!

Thanks for the reply. I understand it can be hard to do this via GTM4WP since it is pushing a lot of events.

To do this on Google Listing and Ads you will need custom code.

While we can’t provide support for code customization as per our support policy, if you need customization, we do our best to offer advice and direct you to appropriate resources.

You also visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there too.

I’m also going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in and help you out further.

    Have a wonderful day!
