    Hi,

I’m not sure if this issue is with AIOSEO or GSC.

For about a week now, GSC sitemaps for all my sites are missing the post.xml links. The discovered URLs total has dropped by the number of missing posts. See this screenshot https://pasteboard.co/IiBN8dN.png

But I can see that the AIOSEO sitemap is listing the post items correctly. https://pasteboard.co/IiBNmui.png

Because there has been a couple of updates to AIOSEO in the last week, it’s hard to know if it is a plugin issue or yet another bug with GSC.

Better to ask, but I’m betting it’s a GSC issue.

I’m inclined to think something’s wonky in GSC as well, but I’m still interested in investigating this. Your sitemaps look perfect as far as I can see.
We only had a few minute updates to the XML Sitemaps, and nothing that *should have caused this behavior on your site.
Can you post a screenshot of your XML Sitemap settings page?

Edit to add: I just wanted to remind you in case you were worried that while this behavior is happening, there’s no SEO harm caused to your site, meaning that your posts aren’t going to drop in Google just because a part of your sitemap may or may not be missing in GSC.

Sure. Here are my settings, in two parts.

Yes, I have checked, and all my posts are still indexed on Google. So it’s not a big issue. Just annoying.

It took several of us staying up until well after midnight, but we believe we’ve identified and fixed the problem.
3.1 has just been released, and makes changes to your sitemap. Google *should automatically update your sitemap index pages pretty quickly. You can remove and re-add your sitemap.xml to Google Search Console if you like, but it shouldn’t be necessary.

Thank you also for your kind words, that’s great to hear as well. ??

    My pleasure, Michael.

You have always been a great help over the years.

But just FYI, I did a double check and I can see when the problem started.

Over the next couple of days, this should return to normal.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Yes, everything should return to normal soon if it hasn’t already. The new GSC sitemap tool has been extremely quick with recrawling sitemaps.

We think GSC made an undocumented and probably inadvertent change last week. That it seemed to have coincided with the 3.0 release is only a coincidence since we could reliably reproduce it with ANY sitemap with _post_ in the filename, regardless of what plugin or tool created it.
