I have a problem with UK Tax (VAT) not being added to prices shown for variable products on product pages and summaries. This usually occurs after a WordPress update. The correct price is shown in the basket or if the user is logged in. If any variable product is saved (without making any changes) the correct price (including tax) for all variable products is shown. This is not a caching issue as it occurs on a staging site without caching.

The UK VAT tax is added only for those visitors from UK (geolocation).

I have found that the problem goes away completely if the Groups plugin is deactivated and returns when that plugin is activated again.

This seems bizarre to me as I can see no obvious link between the Groups plugin and taxes on products. The only possibility I can think of is the plugin sets the region of guests (visitors who are not logged in) to outside of the UK.

Has anybody else had this strange issue? Does anybody know of a solution?

Hi Peter, that’s weird, I don’t see any obvious connection to Groups either. What plugin are you using to determine the geolocation?

I should have said that we are using WooCommerce.

The geolocation is done through WooCommerce which uses MaxMind.

However, I have turned this off to change default customer location to shop base address but the problem still occurs.

    Many thanks…Peter

    Hi Kento

Have you had any more thoughts on this?

If it can’t be fixed we will have to use another plugin.

    Many thanks…Peter

    Hi Peter,

I couldn’t replicate this issue in my tests, are you sure that no caching at all is involved on that staging site? It very much sounds like a typical cache issue.

    Cheers

    Hi Kento

I’m sure that there is no caching on the staging site. Also, when I purged the cache on the live site it did not resolve the problem. However, I must admit that it looks like a caching issue.

The problem has cleared itself on the staging site without any intervention from me. Also, it has not recurred on the live site for a couple of months now.

I had checked location on analytics and user location was being picked up crrectly.

So, it is a weird one but at least it seems to have gone away.

Thanks for following up on that! Weird, but good that it’s not happening anymore on neither ??
