Grouped product, default quantity

    Scratching my head with the ‘grouped product’… ideally we’d like customers to

    a) order a full series in one click,
    b) order 2 copies of a full series with a single extra click

    …however the quantities of each book default to zero, meaning that people have to change the quantity 10 times (or 20 times if they want 2 copies). In the end this means it’s harder work for the customer to order a whole series than if they just added books individually to cart from the series page.

    Have searched in vain for hints or snippets. Tried adjusting line 56 of the grouped.php file without success (within child-theme folder structure).

    Thanks Tom, yes there’s nothing out there that i can find for this issue.

    I wonder if anyone even uses grouped products or if they all purchase the Product Bundle plugin instead :/

    Hi @michalki and @crimescene,

    Looks like that link no longer exists, but from what I understand you have a bunch of books within a series and want to be able to have customers just purchase all in one series without having to click quantity of each product within a grouped product. I am assuming inventory is counted as well for each product, hence trying to group the individual products together. In this case, yes, a plugin such as Product Bundles may be a good choice for better user experience.

    Yes we had to take the link down because it was ultimately more difficult for our customers to buy the whole series in one go, than just to add all 10 items to the cart

    Disappointing that the Grouped Product won’t do what we need, when it really should if i could just tweak it a little…

    No, we’re not counting inventory, just want a way that customers can buy a whole series with one click (or all the books under any one tag / category).

    I can see how the grouped product’s behavior is not what you want here, but hopefully a plugin similar to Product Bundles will work for you!
