Grid/masonry template for posts page

Two things:
1. I’d like to make my posts page into a grid layout. However, when a page is selected as the Posts page in the Reading settings, it loses the template option in the Page Attributes section. So I’m wondering: is it possible to make my designated blog page display as a grid? Or do I need to somehow have a posts page that isn’t actually designated as the posts page in the Reading settings?

2. Related – if #1 is possible, I’d like to make my homepage the posts page, displayed as a grid. Is this possible?
