    Hi,

First of all, thanks for creating this plugin. It’s been very useful for one of my clients.

The situation is the following: my client uses the Post Grid module to display the posts in the form of a grid. Above the grid, she’s using categories as filters for the posts. However, my client uses these filters for archive pages of a certain category, “Recursos y actividades”. The category filters shown correspond to the top-level categories, so “Recursos y actividades” appears again (among the rest of categories). Instead of this, she’d like the page to display the subcategories of “Recursos y actividades”, since the page is already showing all posts in said category.

We’re aware that the subcategories appear if the user clicks on “Recursos y actividades”, but we think the user’s experience would be better if they appeared directly, for the reasons mentioned above.

Is this possible to do? I’ve searched the forums and I haven’t found an answer to this. Please, let me know if I’m missing something.

Thanks a lot for your time.

    Kind regards,

    Montse

    Hi Nick,

Thanks a lot for looking into this. The page is this one. It’s the archive page for category “Recursos y Actividades”. As you can see (screenshot), the categories shown correspond to the top-level categories.

If I click again on “Recursos y actividades”, now I see the subcategories within it (screenshot). Ideally, this is what my client would like to see, since the page is already an archive for “Recursos y actividades”.

I hope everything is clearer. If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thanks again for your time.

    Kind regards,

    Montse

Hi, I have investigated the code and unfortunatly it is not possible :(, WP do not allow us to such a things with fitlers.

    Kind Regards,
    Nick

There is supposed to be a category filter in the query where you can choose which one you want to display. In your case, you can select “posts” and then “Recursos y actividades” as a filter category of the query. Here is a screenshot.

My apologies, Nick, I thought I had already replied to you. Thanks again for looking into it, even if it wasn’t possible to find a solution.

@plopman , I already tried this in a local dev environment, and you can see the result in the screenshot. The only change is that the remainder of the top level categories do not appear. The issue was not so much this, as that the user had to click twice to filter by the specific subcategory. A workaround, which I also considered, was to manually add all the subcategories, but it’s a no-go because of the high maintenance cost (and how easy it can be to forget to update the template). In any case, thanks for your help!

    Kind regards,

    Montse
