Great plugin in waiting for theme solutions
-
I use the plugin for dark mode in wp-admin only and it offers a quick solution for that and does that well. I like the switch in the top that allows for quick switching between light and dark mode too, since the editor is often more workable in light mode.
What i like less, but accept as being part of (limitations of) this kind of general solution is:
- the flashing of light mode on page load, before dark mode kicks in
- the somewhat lack of enough contrast in highlight colors and sometimes the text
- parts of the pages that are not in dark mode, like the response reporting when updating plugins.
- some panels not contrasting enough from the rest of the page to get easy attention.
But in the end it’s a quick fix for me in waiting of more granular solutions offered by themes or wordpress itself and the plugin does a great job for that.
I have tried to set dark mode in the frontend too, but that was not great for me and I would rather use a more custom solution that is part of a theme for that, then try to customize the output of the plugin.
Sometimes the thought arises in me that it would be nice if WordPress would offer a central color base so that both WordPress itself as themes and plugins could be switched in one go and one not have to customize for each plugins output separately. The gutenberg changes will bring us more to such a solution, it seems, but it’s not there yet and when plugins and themes choose to build own solutions instead it will probably take customizations to change these kind of things.
For now, this solution is enough for me and I’m thankful to the developers for this.
