Great Plugin Handicapped by Antagonistic “Free Version” Limitations
-
This is a great plugin overall.
However, one of the limitations of the free version is not mentioned at all pre-install.
When a user clicks on a file, instead of opening the file, you’re presented with a “metadata” window that shows the file statistics and there’s a tiny “view file” link at the top. There’s no way to turn this off unless you buy the premium plugin for $75 a year. This is so offensively antagonistic tactic to get you to buy a plugin…specifically and intentionally making it more difficult and annoying to use is the wrong way to try and get your users to upgrade.
This in itself is a deal breaker.
Plus, if you do any research on their website, forums or reviews – You can tell that their support is terrible. Every single thread on their forums ends in “We need admin access to your website. Reply to the ticket with credentials.” Which is incredibly bad. They respond to bad reviews with “This is not our fault. This is your fault.” posts. It has such potential, but the people behind it are what makes it not good.
