    To prevent yourself from getting into trouble:
    1. Before updating ANY plugin, try it first on a test instance of WordPress. Just put it into a subfolder or subdomain on your server and make sure you use a different table_prefix, or use a different database.
    2. Before updating your main website, make a decent backup first.
