Great plugin but stars disappear after user chooses rating

I think this is an outstanding plugin. I’m using it for a rating site and I submit all of the fields using a form which submits custom fields. Everything seems to work fine EXCEPT that when I select a star rating, e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc., the stars disappear when I click on my selection. If I click the blank area again, they reappear. I checked in Chrome developer and I see that when the star choice is selected, a script inserts (toggles) a “display:none” into the status class CSS. Any ideas or suggestion? Thanks in advance.
