Great Gallery, Lousy support
-
We are using the Pro version of FooGallery for almost a year now. In a nutshell, it is a great gallery if you need Pro features not found elsewhere. For us, it was the possibility to show exif data to users, have a nice lightbox and an album feature (organizing multiple galleries) and high influcence on how the gallery should look.
So far so got, but why only 2 stars? Read on …
IF you report a bug or report a breakage of an update released to you, you are lost. I have reported multiple bugs of various very basic issues. One for example, that you cannot rename a gallery (!). Yes, you need to delete and recreate.
None of the bugs have been addressed so far. None.
But read on …
End of march, 2.4.13 was released (Pro version) that breakes all albums. Yes, all albums. To this day, the bug has not been fixed, weeks after confirmation of this issue by the company behind FooGallery. Yes, they have helped me to install the old version. However, the whole software lifecycle is really not in a good shape.
So, my recommendation: Test the Pro version to the absolute detail you will need it. There won’t be any improvements in code later on. Have your own, tested fallback mechanism, so you are always able to roll back broken updates. And yes: TEST ALL UPDATES ??
I’d love to see this software be wrapped in a professional development life cycle. There is always hope.
