Great documentation pages
-

Easy to use plugin for creating user guides and other documentation. Here are a few of the things I noticed:
- Lots of templates for the root documentation page. Makes navigating the docs easy for users

- Good search interface

- Automatically generates anchors for heading tags, allowing you to easily send links to specific parts of the documentation to users

- All of the betterdocs generated HTML is contained within a div with a class of betterdocs-content. That makes it easy to target the documentation pages with custom CSS.

- Lots of layout and configuration options

- Automatically generates table of contents for each article

- Support is prompt and thorough

?

Dropping this to four stars for a couple of reasons:
- If you switch your site’s theme (I tried to create a child theme), any customizations you’ve made to the documentation settings in betterdocs will be lost. That’s because betterdocs has entries in the database that are hard-coded to the theme name. To switch themes, you either have to re-do your customizations or run a search/replace in the database to update those entries.
- betterdocs sets a cookie on all of its pages that breaks server side caching. I’m still working with support to find a way around that.
- My more recent interactions with support haven’t been as good – they’ve mis-read or not read my entire request, resulting in delays as they ask questions I’d already answered.

Still, I’m happy with my documentation pages and will be keeping the plugin.
