• Having used a number of mapping plugins, this one is definitely to be recommended. Easy to set up and use and a good end product. The ability to combine shapes, lines (e.g. gpx tracks) and markers without premium addons on the same map is great. There is a good degree of customisation of ‘types’ available and the ability to centre a new map to your current location is really helpful to get it started.

A couple of ‘nice to haves’ would be the ability to set the zoom level of the map on first display in the shortcode, the ability to set the line width in the Settings, and to be able to show/hide the map name in the shortcode to override the default setting.

Whilst the default marker icon set is comprehensive, maybe a longer term addon could be the ability to define different icon sets and assign one per map. I use mapping to present lots of different types of data and I’ve never found a single icon set that meets all needs.

Overall, a great plugin Joe. Much appreciated.

Thank you for your kind words @neilhorton740!

I also appreciate your constructive feedback. I agree that the zoom level/show header per shortcode option and line width setting would be nice additions. I will add those to the “to do” list and give them some thought.

That’s a very interesting idea. I definitely agree that there is room for improvement around the Types functionality. I have given some thought to creating “Type Sets” similar to what you describe and even the ability to browse/share these with others… but things quickly get complicated.

It’s always a battle between ease-of-use and adding extra features, but input like this really helps. If you have any interest in checking out (beta) features of the plugin then let me know, feedback is always appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi Joe,

Having been an application developer before retiring, I’m all too aware of ‘feature creep’, so understand the issues.

Yes, happy to check out beta features anytime.

    So… a few things.

    1. This is a great review. Honest, I read almost all of them and this is productive.
    2. The review also turned into a blog post pretty quickly.
    3. There were blog post comments here in the many replies.
    4. It also turned into a support topic.
    5. And it turned into a showcase for support of this plugin. Which should be part of the review.
    6. The reviewer posted their email for off forum contact. That post hit the spam queue so it should not have been published.
    7. I saw that when I cleared out the spam queue.
    8. I archived many of the replies.
    9. I had more coffee before attempting to reply here.

The replies are all still there, they have just been archived. Any moderator can see them.

    I have some suggestions.

@morehawes If you have not already done so, can you uploaded that Waymark-0.9.8b2.zip file to the development version of this plugin? That will let users such a Neil download it from this site.

By putting it there on www.remarpro.com, that makes any topic about it in the plugin’s support sub-forum and it can be supported in the right place. In this plugin’s support sub-forum. This link will let anyone reading this go straight to making a plugin support topic.

@neilhorton740 Please, please, please don’t post any emails on this site again. You’ll just get more spam and besides this conversation is collaboration. That should happen where the community can read it, in the support forum.

If you want to support the version of the plugin that Joe posted here (you downloaded it) then please start a support topic using the link above. That’s really where this conversation belongs. While this review and dialog were very friendly and collaborative, too many people use the reviews like a stick to get what they want from a plugin author.

    *Drinks coffee*

That’s not the case here but “FIX THE PLUGIN THE WAY I WANT OR THE REVIEW GETS IT” happens too often. That’s why I’m closing this with a reply here. It’s not really appropriate to have support topic in a review.

By the way, if you like you can update your review at anytime. This link will let you do that.
