Great, but not necessary with W3 Total Cache CloudFlare

  • Recommendation: Install W3 Total Cache, register the site on CloudFlare, and turn on the optimization at CloudFlare instead of using this plugin. If the above is not possible, then use this plugin as an alternative.

    I tried using this plugin and had no problems installing it on a multi-site website. This multi-site website already had the W3 Total Cache plugin and all of the sites were registered for a free account on CloudFlare. Activating the different JavaScript and CSS libraries just added extra libraries to the page, which would slow down the website. Upon further review, I discovered that all of my JavaScript and most of my CSS libraries were already hosted on CloudFlare or Amazon S3 because I used W3 Total Cache and CloudFlare to boost the speed of the website already. The only CSS libraries left were the ones for my theme/template (“Habitat”) and Contact Form 7.

    Hi,

    Many thanks for the review of the plugin.

    I believe there’s a confusion here between having CloudFlare on your site, and using CDNJS as provided by CloudFlare. They’re different.

    Using CloudFlare is not the same as this plugin. With CDNJS you’re using a CDN to source the files such that, the more people that adopt it, the more likely they are to have downloaded these CDN-provided files and therefore it’ll be cached for them.

    CloudFlare caches YOUR site files, and if you cache YOUR JQuery for your visitors, when they go to another site that perhaps uses CDNJS, their JQuery wont be cached.

    Also, you shouldn’t be activating any CSS/Javascript files from this plugin unless you need them. They are provided as an option to replace the source from which you serve these libraries. This plugin isn’t designed to add bulk, but instead to let you optimize anything (bulk or otherwise) you have.

    I hope that helps clarify this plugin purpose a bit.
