Gravatar not Displaying – Other Options?

I’ve setup my avatar via Gravatar.com, and it refuses to display on my site. I’ve used the same email when signing up for Gravatar.com as I use to login to my site. I’ve tried playing with all the settings in Settings > Discussion. I’ve waited a few days. I’ve cleared my browser cache. I’ve confirmed my theme supports Gravatars (via BuddyPress plugin). No matter what I’ve tried, I have this pink pentagon with glasses sticking his tongue out at me, as if to mock the fact that I can’t figure out how to remove him.

Any ideas? And furthermore, why is adding an icon to my site so difficult? Shouldn’t there be an option to override the Gravatar functionality in the Users>Profile section? Anyone know of a plugin that enables this?
