On the 13th of Dec the new GPSR law is coming into effect and will be required for all EU webshops. Easiest is probably to create a new custom tab for each individual product where we can enter and upload relevant GPSR information and documents. Ideally this function would be available within the product directly.

Has the team of Woo planned any implementation of this, and if yes will this option be available soon?

I just wanted to know before I implement my own solution with a third-party plugin, because I always think less plugins is better.

    Thank you.

    Hello adorablepaws,

Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support.

Could you please share a reference or link to the GPSR law you’re referring to?

I’d be happy to review it and provide further guidance on how you can best implement this within your WooCommerce store.

Looking forward to your response. ??

    Hi Zubair Zahid,

this is the link to the law coming into effect on 13th December 2024:

    https://commission.europa.eu/business-economy-euro/doing-business-eu/eu-product-safety-and-labelling/product-safety/general-product-safety-regulation_en

To summarize it, every product requires additional information, such as manufacturer, responsible person for the EU (If the manufacturer is not in the EU), product data sheet with technical documentation, lab testing and instructions. This needs to be provided to customers within the EU before buying a product.

People who sell on market places like Amazon or Bols can already upload and add this information.

Now with Woo this could easily be done by having an extra custom tab, where we could enter the relevant information and upload data sheets preferably directly within each product.

I know there are already plugins on the wordpress – even free ones – I could use to implement this and fulfil the GPSR, but since all online shops will need this now if they continue to sell to customers of the EU, I wanted to know, if Woo will implement such a feature, before I go ahead and install another third party plugin.

    Hello adorablepaws,

    Thank you for your reply.

Currently, WooCommerce does not have a built-in feature in the core to add extra fields for information like the manufacturer, responsible person for the EU, technical documentation, lab testing, and instructions for each product.

However, as you correctly pointed out, this can be easily implemented using plugins.
A good option is the Product Options and Addons for WooCommerce plugin, which allows you to add custom fields (including a custom tab) for each product where you can enter the necessary information.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you have more questions or concerns.
