now I can’t install jetpack – says the directory already exists.
I have this message on top of my dashboard: An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.
But no available updates show in the updates.

    Help!

  • Do you see Jetpack in your dashboard under Plugins? If so, try deleting and then installing again.

Alternately, you may want to FTP to your site and browse to the plugins directory and delete the jetpack folder there.

Ok did that (Erased from the ftp), but now still have this message stuck on my dashboard: “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.” which does nothing… it’s annoying

As detailed on here on the Dashboard Updates Screen doc, you will need to delete the .maintenance file found in the WordPress root/base folder. Then you can attempt the update again and you should be able to install Jetpack after that.
