Got it running on localhost. Switched computers now how do I do it again?

    Hey guys. Terrible news (for me). I got WP running no problem on localhost last week, did a ton of altercations, and then spilled coffee on my computer.

    It’s being repaired now, and I took the whole localhost folder on a DVD and put it on a different computer, now I can get WP working on localhost, but how do I get all these files back on my localhost as opposed to a clean slate?

    I figured if i pointed MAMP to the folder with everything in it, the wordpress site I had before would work just fine, but instead when I goto localhost it asks me to create a new wordpress site. Why? How do I fix this?

    This is really important to me, it’s for a client who is having a conference very soon =\

  • Did you make a backup of your database files in your phpMyAdmin and import them in the phpMyAdmin on the other computer? If the database isn’t found WordPress will redirect you to creating a new database for that installation.

    Crap. If I didnt do that is there no other way to transfer it over?

    Not unless you have a database backup…

    But… but.. but…

    So I have all the files still, regarding layouts and everything. Everything WP related EXCEPT for the php database part.

    So.. what will i need to do? (Other than go back and backup the DB since I cant now)

    That database part contained all of your content, your image urls, your theme’s settings, your plugins’ settings and just about everything else that distinguished your site from every other WordPress site on the planet. No database – no WordPress site.

    I’m afraid you’ll have to start all over again. ??

    I still dont totall ybelieve this. I have the wp-content and themes folders and stuff, why would I have to start from scratch, I mean what’s the purpose of those folders then?

    They contain code that interfaces with the theme as well as the database.

    But in your case: no database, no content. End of story.
