Got any step-by-step how-to blog posts on using this plugin?

  • Hi there,

    I’d like to capture readers’ email addresses and names prior to download, and I see that this plugin along with Download Monitor does this.

    However, clearly I’m not configuring it right because it’s not working – can you direct me to a good blog post which details step-by-step how to set up and activate a download in a blog post or page? ie you don’t say on Installation where the actual functionality lives – took me forever to find a little tiny arrow above each blog post which is the Download Monitor icon…but whereis the Email Before Download icon?! One of those things where it’s easy when you know how, but a bit baffling when you don’t.

    Also – is there any way of capturing the email addresses into other newsletter services (in my case, MailChimp) or will it only work with Contact Form??

    1. Upload and Activate WordPress Download Monitor (It’s says compatiable up to 3.2. but it works 3.5) and Contact Form 7
    2. Configure settings for both plugins
    3. Make sure in the Contact 7 form you leave the email field in the form so it will send the email the person who want to download your file(s). You can add additional fields to it as well.
    4. After configuring the plugins you should have an id for both
    5. In the shortcode below the download_id is for Download Monitor and the contact_form_id is for Contact 7 (look at the screenshots as an example to find them).
    6. Replace the the X’s with id’s from the plugins and copy the whole shortcode and place it wherever you want in posts and/or pages.
    7.Your Done!
