Google XML Sitemap Plugin

  • Hello All,

    I have installed the Google XML Sitemap plugin, but I need a bit of clarity. Does this plugin automatically generate and then send the sitemap to Google, etc, or is there something I have to do? Does this plugin generate and send in new sitemaps whenever changes are made? In all I have read, I see that I can go to Options in the plugin, but I cannot see where Options is. As well, is this the best, or should I be manually generating a sitemap and sending it in.

    Thanks for any help possible – just beginning with all of this.

    It generates the sitemap and can optionally ping Google to let it know that a sitemap is now available.

    A new sitemap is automatically generated using whatever interval you have selected in the plugin’s options page (listed as “XML-Sitemap” under Admin/Settings). Once Google is aware of the sitemap, it will return at regular intervals to re-index it.

    You don’t “send” a sitemap to Google. You keep the sitemap file on your site and merely tell Google where it is. You can do this by setting up a Google Webmaster’s account but it’s not essential.

    I like the Google XML Sitemap plugin and have used it on a number of sites without any problem. It does exactly what it says on the box. ??

    I installed the plug in about one week ago and Webmaster shows no sitemap. Have I not waited long enough?
