Google Webmaster Tools, removed tags, 404 errors

    Google Webmaster Tools is throwing 404 errors for my tags. Except I removed all my tags a few months ago, and it’s acting like they’re still there. I’ve checked all the posts, and there are no tags associated with the posts. If I go to the Posts section and look at “Tags,” there are no tags. Not even hidden.

    It’s also throwing 404 errors for pages (not posts) I’ve removed. I’ve regenerated my site map in a variety of forms and uploaded those to the server. I’ve added my new sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools and tested it. Next time I check, the 404 errors are back.

    I don’t know enough about PHP and wordPress to know where to check the code and how to fix it. What could be throwing this error?
