Google Webmaster Tools Error

    I just installed this plugin and configured the settings. Then I uploaded a sitemap at Google Webmaster Tools. Then I tested it and it says the following:

    Issue: Sitemap is HTML
    Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

    What should I do? Thanks

    Is there some sort of sitemap.html in your website’s root folder?

    or similarly sitemap.php?

    In the root folder there are two files called ‘SITEMAP’ and they are:

    sitemap.backup.xml
    sitemap.backup.xml.gz

    Also, in the WP-CONTENT folder there is a sub-folder called ‘SITEMAPS’ but it is empty.

    In case this matters, I used to have Google XML Sitemaps plugin installed but it has started acting strange and there’s no support for it. I’m still hoping your plugin can work for me.

    Definitely delete the SITEMAP folder in the root directory. As it is a physical folder Apache will use this for any sitemap access due to the WP server rules.
