• I want to add the Google + verification code to the header of my site so that it links with the site’s Google + page.

Can I use the WordPress editor to add the code to the header of the site, or is it more complicated than that and requires FTP, etc.? Secondly, I’m using a parent-child set up, so if I am able to use the WP editor, would I make the change in the parent theme or the child theme?

You can use the editor in your browser when logged in…but, if you make an error and the site becomes unresponsive, you will need to have FTP access to fix it. Also, never edit either way without keeping an unedited version (usually with a full backup).

Never edit a parent theme. These are lost on theme update.
