Google SMS no longer supported?

  • Every time I attempt to post via the plugin, I receive the following message at the email address linked to my Google Voice account:

    Google+ SMS is no longer available. You can visit plus.google.com to access Google+ on the mobile web

    The post that I tried to send does still end up in my Google Voice inbox, but that message is sent right afterwards. It also happens when I try texting to 33669 via the Google Voice dashboard. Does this mean that Google closed the loophole?

    Crap. Maybe. I’ll look into it.

    Mine still seems to be working fine. I just tested it a few minutes ago. I’m only having issues on the google+ status update box and I opened a new topic just now for that.

    At this point, I’d advise users to find another solution. It appears Google has dumped the post by email option via Google Voice, and although a few users have reported it still works, most are unable to use it.

    I suspect it’s only a matter of time before it stops working for all users.

    I would recommend JetPack with the Google+ module to handle this functionality from here on out.

    If I find another workaround, I will certainly update the plugin, but as of now, it doesn’t look too promising ??

    Well now I’m really confused. I have Jetpack up and running. I have GooglePlus sharing activated on it. But originally I thought it didn’t connect over with that sharing option. So I added your plugin and activated it and thought that all my postings have been from that? So have my postings recently actually been coming from Jetpack. And yes, I just noticed over in my google plus mail a rejection issue on the SMS. So does that mean my postings are getting over to Google Plus solely from Jetpack?

    Yes, that’s probably the case. You can test by sending an email to the Google Voice email address from your configured email, and see if you get the rejection notice.

    I just tried that and yes, it didn’t work. So is it safe to assume then, that my postings have been going through using Jetpack, including todays? When did Google Plus start rejecting this do you think? I honestly though that Jetpack wasn’t able to auto post either as you and i had an email conversation awhile ago that I thought Jetpack wasn’t able to share the link and snipped on GooglePlus. Has that functionality been added in the past few months to Jetpack?

    It seems to have stopped working about a week ago, but I don’t see an official announcement from Google. So it’s safe to assume the JetPack feature is working correctly.

    Yeah, I just deactivated your plug in and it works fine still. Regardless, thanks for this tool for the time it was working great. I really appreciate it! I’m not sure how to close this issue though.
