Google Site Search robots.txt Error Message

  • Hi there,

    Disclaimer: I’m a blog administrator novice. When doing a search for my blog on Google here is the message I get as the first find for my site. I’ve enhanced my SEO settings yet this is the first thing that comes up.

    Any thoughts on how I can modify settings to correct? Also, when I click the link that’s offered it takes me to an untrusted site. I’m not sure but I may have been hacked.

    I want search engines to find my site and content.

    Any help is much appreciated (with step by step instructions). Thanks so much!!

  • Hi @srsobo,
    you have to look in the root directory of your site and there you’ll probably find a file named robots.txt that contains something like:

    User-agent: *
Disallow: /

    Remove the Disallow line.
    To have information on how Google has indexed your site and analyze the potential problems found, you should use “Google Search Console”, that is a free tool provided by Google.
