    Google search results of my website are different from meta description I written in the Yoast SEO plugin. All results show a generic description. Link of image and my website provided.

    The search results persist for around 4 weeks now since I updated the meta description.

    How do I fix this? Thanks

    Hello @hgwpo!

    Perhaps Google’s cache of your site is outdated or maybe Google just ignored the meta description you created.

    If it’s Google’s cache, depending on how often your website is spidered, it could take some time for Google to update the changes you’ve made and this can vary depending on many factors. If you have your site set up in Google Search Console, you can force Google to re-crawl a page by using URL Inspection. Please refer here.

    If Google thinks a part of your text is more relevant to the search query than your own meta description, they’ll ignore the meta description you created. All you can do is deliver them as good a description as possible. Learn more about it here.

    @onlyincebu,

    Thanks for the info.

    Bing search results show our meta descriptions in the exact same way we wrote them. Google search results do not for reasons you explained above. Can you explain why this difference? Could it be caused by a “code mismatch” between Yoast and Google?

    With millions of Yoast customers affected, has Yoast contacted Google to investigate this further? (i.e., respect Yoast’s code inputs like Bing does)

    Again, thank you. Great plugin.

    Hi @jetxpert,

    Glad to hear that you like the plugin! Please know that Google sometimes ignoring the meta description in the page source is a known issue. Unfortunately, this isn’t specific to any particular SEO plugin.

    For further assistance, we recommend submitting an issue to the Google Search Console Help for any further troubleshooting and feedback on whether your descriptions meet their guidelines. https://support.google.com/webmasters.

    @priscillamc,

    Will do, thank you. Would be great to know if Yoast has contacted Google as well. Collaboration is a wonderful thing.

    Have a safe, fun holiday weekend.

    Cheers!

    We understand you want us to reach out to Google to fix the issue. However, this is more of a feature rather than an issue that Google will fix. Google often modifies the SEO data in the search results based on the search terms and many other factors. They do it automatically to improve the visitor’s search experience and to make sure that visitors can find what they are looking for exactly.
