    Hi!
Searching for ‘webprogrammierer’ in Google displays confusing text content for the landing page of my website ‘derwebprogrammierer.at’ (4th result).
Search results for all other areas of my website are displayed according to my YOAST optimization (see https://www.google.at/search?q=derwebprogrammierer.at).
Why does YOAST not seem to have any effect on how the Google search result is displayed for the landing page of my website?
    Kind regards, Gerald

  • Hi,

To clarify, Google is not showing the right title or meta description for this page: https://derwebprogrammierer.at/dermoeglichmacher/?

    Hi!
No, searching for ‘webprogrammierer’ in Google displays confusing text content in the description for the landing page of my website ‘derwebprogrammierer.at’ (see search result with ‘derwebprogrammierer.at’ as URL and ‘derwebprogrammierer findet L?sungen’ as title).

    Hi,

Can you elaborate more on what is confusing? We looked at Google here and Yoast is outputting the right meta description. See image: https://pasteboard.co/JkGNWEH.jpg

    Thank you for your investigation.
I cannot open the pasteboard link – my malware protection says, this site has a trojan.
You did not search for ‘webprogrammierer’ in Google, but for ‘site:derwebprogrammierer.at’, right?
Please try to search for ‘webprogrammierer’ in Google.
One of the first search results should be my website ‘derwebprogrammierer.at’.
And the description is ‘Skip to content. derwebprogrammierer. überblick. L?sung · über · Kontakt · Kaufen. L?sung. Eine Website, alle Ger?te – Responsives Design. Responsives …’.
    Can you see it?
    What is happening here?

    Hi,

We viewed the source code and can confirm that Yoast is outputting the URL as expected. Indeed, as shown before Google is outputting it correctly.

The issue is that Google is changing the meta description when users search.

To resolve the issue you will need to do the following:

    – 1. We ask that you improve the meta description.?Google sometimes changes the meta description to be more descriptive and to help users when they search.?This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/help/my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages/. You can learn more about improving them with this guide: https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/.

    – 2. Then use?Inspect Any URL to encourage Google to reindex the page and update the search results accordingly. Check in Google to see if the right one then appears. This guide explains more about that tool: https://yoast.com/help/fetch-as-googlebot/.

    – 3. Consider contacting Google by making a post on their forum and asking them why Googlebot is changing the meta description. You may contact Google here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters.
Please let us know if you have anymore questions.

    Hello!

    I tried all your advice.
But after Google having reindexed the landing page of my website, nothing improved – same result as before, although I have shortened and optimized the meta-description.
Why does YOAST have no effect on the landing page in Google search results?

    Kind regards,
    Gerald

Whereas Google typically uses the meta description from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify or ignore the meta description when it sees fit. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google using another value for the meta description it indexes as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index. We have additional information on this here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages/. If Google is ignoring the meta description you have created for a page and creating it’s own description based off the page’s content, we would recommend creating a new meta description that reflect’s the page’s content. We have an article on how to write clean and meaningful meta description for your pages and posts by following the steps given in this guide. https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/.

    Hello!

    Thank you for your hints.
I also posted the issue on the Google community now, and fortunately I seem to have found a solution:
