My AMP setting is Standard. Supported templates are posts and pages. Plugin suppression: no validation errors. I like rich results for articles. There is NO rich results plugin installed because I assume the your plugin will also produce rich results? Am I right?

Google rich results test for [ redundant link removed ] Result:
2 valid items detected: All have warnings. Warning: missing field URL optional. Google says: Valid items with warnings are eligible for Google Search’s rich results, but are missing additional information that can be displayed. I hope you understand that I don’t like the fact that Google is unable to display additional information. I think this basically means that Google will simply not use my rich results in the search results and that is not so nice. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for reaching out. The structured data validation warnings you’re encountering is in relation to the “Autor” property and it’s due to not having a URL. This isn’t something output by the AMP plugin, if you switch to transitional mode AMP you’d find the same warning.

In order to remove this warning you could make the author tab clickable to the author page. It may be possible to do so from your theme configurations.

I think this basically means that Google will simply not use my rich results in the search results and that is not so nice.

This is a warning and not an error. If using the “author” property it’s recommended to have a URL, however not required. You’re URLs containing this warning will be fully available for rich results!

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Sorry James, I have no idea what you are talking about. What I do know is that my author page is duplicate content because it’s the same as my home page. That’s why I have excluded the author page in my robots.txt file. (Disallow: /author/). Is that what you mean to say?

    Hi Richard,

Disallowing the authors page from indexing is separate to the structured data warning you’re encountering. Hopefully I can explain what’s occurring in your case a bit better.

The “Warning: missing field URL optional.” is occurring from the lack of an “author URL“, which is recommended for the “article” structured data type (in your case this refers to a post).

When checking that post there is no link on the author. Some websites allow a link on the author’s name that to a URL, such as a link directing visitors to all that authors posts on the website.

If you want to address that structured data warning you can make changes to your theme settings or ensure there is a link on the author name. This isn’t a requirement, it’s just a recommendation. It doesn’t stop your content from appearing in rich results.

Note also that the AMP plugin doesn’t impact the author link. The same would occur if you are not using AMP.

Let me know if you have any further questions with the above.

No problem at all, and best of luck with your site. If you have any further queries be sure to reach out, and if you’ve been using the plugin for a while be sure to share your thoughts.
